“The Work”
“The Work” is a painting that explores the relationship between everyday labor and the state of peace of mind that can be achieved by performing simple tasks. Inspired by the idea that work used to be less stressful, the work depicts a woman washing clothes in a natural paradise. The sound of water, wind through the trees and birdsong evoke a sense of tranquility. The large purple head, from which water flows, symbolizes a meditative state, in which the act of washing clothes becomes a contemplation of the present. Here, the task loses its burden of effort and becomes an experience of connection with the environment, with the promise that the river will still be there tomorrow.
